The Portfolio of Marlin E. Thorman
Short Biography - September 16, 2007
I was born on April 30, 1987, in California. When I was 4 years old we moved up to Washington State where I lived for 15 years. I graduated from high school at Upper Columbia Academy in June of 2006. Currently I am living in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and attending Southern Adventist University.
My interest in trains started when I was very young. As a little kid of 2 years old, I would love to go to the Amtrak station and watch the train come in. In 1999 I started writing down the engine numbers from the trains and I got my first camera. It wasn't much of a camera but it got me hooked. Most of the photography I did though was railroad related. When my camera broke in 2001, I did a little with my dad's Minolta.
For my 8th grade graduation I got a Sony DSCF707. My 10th grade year I took Photography I at school. It was a film photography class so I used my dad's older Minolta camera. I did all of my own film developing although we worked only in Black and White. Then I took Photography II which I completed in about half the time the class usually lasted. Although I haven't taken any other classes or anything, I have read a lot on photography and always like to look for good photos to get ideas from.
For 3 and a half years I used my digital camera a lot and a lot of the photos on my website and on this portfolio were taken with it. Then in the fall of 2005 I sold my Sony and bought a Canon 20D. I have been very pleased with its performance. Currently I own the Canon 24-70mm F2.8L and the Canon 100-400 F4.5-5.6L IS lens, and I am very happy with both of them. I also have the Canon 1.4x teleconverter and the Canon Speedlite 580EX II flash. I would like to get the Canon 100mm F2.8 USM Macro lens too someday soon. I have written a review of all the equipment I currently own, and it can be found here.
