On Saturday afternoon, June 21, 2003, our family loaded up in the car and headed over to Fish Lake. Fish Lake is located on BNSF's Lakeside Subdivision in Marshall Canyon and about 3 miles east of Cheney, WA. The old SP&S railroad grade has been converted into a paved bike/walking trail. When we arrived I headed for where the BNSF (ex-NP) crosses over the UP (ex-OWRN/MILW) line. My brother had brought his bike so he rode around while my parents walked. I had just arrived when the westbound Lind Turn silently approached. I saw it before I heard it even but I managed to get a grab shot (BNSF 2087, BN(BNSF) 2896, 2710). I waited around and an hour later the Lind Turn came back east with 2 cars headed for Spokane, WA. I was ready for him this time so I took several shots.
Just as he passed I heard a whistle in Cheney, WA and on the scanner a UP train asked Boyer West for permission to enter BNSF tracks. The UP train got the requested permission so I quickly ran down a little hill to get a good shot. The train was lead by a CP and had 90 manifest cars as it rumbled along (CP 8560, UP 7020). After waiting for another 40 minutes I heard another whistle in Cheney, WA. I quickly ran along the hillside to get a shot of the coming BNSF train around a curve. I had just enough time to set up before it entered my sight. "Wow what a consist" was my first thought as I snapped pictures (BNSF 4132, 8026, 8010, BN(BNSF) 7051, CN 2646, CP 6022) of the H-PASGAL. After it had passed we all walked back towards the car. On the way I saw several old signal indicators so I stopped to photograph them. Well that is it so happy hunting!
