I had Thursday off from work and so my dad woke me up at 10am when the southbound PCC train rolled through. He said it had a different locomotive up front since the horn was not the usual, so we grabbed our stuff and headed out to investigate. It turned out to be the ex-BAR 360 (Bangor & Aroostook Railroad) now supposedly owned by WAMX although there are now lease markings. We caught up to the train a little bit before Plaza, WA. It had 14 cars in the mix today but a few minutes later it stopped in Plaza to set out 5 hopper cars at the elevator. We got a few shots and then continued on to look for another couple. On the scanner we overheard that they were supposed to pick up another engine in Rosalia which wasn't really to our liking but then a few minutes later they said that it wasn't ready yet and was still down for repairs. After getting a few more shots before Rosalia we hit the highway and got one as it ducked under the old Milwaukee Bridge. After another 20 miles and various stops for pictures the train arrived in Oaksdale, WA. Here I was set up waiting for it and just as it arrived a blue car started across the crossing. Well suddenly it stopped right on the tracks and then "Bang" got shot backwards as the train hit the front end. Thankfully the driver was alright but we had a nice chat the the train crew and driver while we waited for the police. After an hour of delay the train headed to the other side of town to set out a boxcar. Next we chased it down to Garfield stopping a few times to get shots. Then after another 15 miles or so we arrived at Palouse, WA. On the way of course we got lots more photos. In Palouse the train dropped off the rear 4 cars and then headed up the WIM branch to the mill at Potlatch with 4 empty centerbeams. After chasing it a couple miles up that branch we turned around and headed back home. It was a fun couple hours with my dad and it isn't everyday you see a train vs. car accident.
