Even though it was dark and cloudy we set off on November 23, 2002 to see some action. We left after lunch at 1:30pm and headed straight for Cheney, WA. From there we turned onto Cheney Spokane Rd. where we saw our first train at UP Jct. We turned around and beat it back to Anderson Road where we took some pictures and video. It was a westbound earthworm (BNSF 4323, 5497, 4994) Then we drove back to UP Jct. and parked. We walked down to the tracks and promptly heard on the scanner of a westbound only minutes away. Setting up quickly, we watched as a westbound manifest barreled past (BNSF 4449, 4644, 3188, BN(BNSF) 3121, 3125). After that we climbed to the top of a point of rocks and waited for an hour and a half with no luck. Finally after hearing on the scanner of several trains headed for Seattle and freezing our hands (it was in the twenties with the wind chill) we packed up our gear and headed back to the car. It was then 3:50pm and sundown was at 4:00pm so we drove home somewhat disappointed, seeing only BLMR 784 and PCC 2268 at the PCC interchange in Marshall, WA. |
