Saturday afternoon was cloudy but I wanted a chance to try out my new 100-400mm lens. So despite the weather I headed into Spokane for some trackside time. At Yardley I found a westbound M-CSXPAS waiting to take the old main so it could switch some cars (BN 7015(patched), BNSF 4646, 2259, UP 9524). A couple minutes later an eastbound stack train pulled through to the east end of the yard (BNSF 1016, NS 9722). A westbound Z-train had been working the east end of the yard and now pulled down to the west end and out the old main (BN 7812(patched), GCFX 3066, BNSF 332, 6813). Then a few minutes later an eastbound M-PASNTW rolled up to the yard (BNSF 1045, 8080, BN 6917, 7036(both patched)). At 2pm a westbound manifest train rolled up to the west end of the yard (BN 6794(patched), ATSF 6348(patched), FURX 3038). Next I headed down to the east end of the yard. I could see the headlight of another westbound approaching so I headed down to find out what it was. It turned out to be a hopper train in 2x2 configuration (BNSF 4625, 5301, 4901, 4601). After shooting the head end I drove down to find the DPUs. Next I headed out to Otis Orchards to see what the action was like out there. I found a westbound stack train stopped at the end of the double track (BNSF 7303, 6860). After getting a couple pictures of this train I heard a horn to the west. Pretty soon an eastbound B-PTLCHC train rolled by (BN 7151(patched), ATSF 631(patched)). Heading down almost to the state line I waited at a crossing for some more action. Around 3pm the westbound M-NTWPAS2-29A kicked up snow on its way through with 102 cars (ATSF 611, 8702(both patched), BN 6320, 3196(both patched)). After shooting a picture of this train I decided to wait around for a little longer just to see if something else would come before it got too dark. After a bit I drove back towards Spokane and found a little local lead by BN 2834(patched). A little bit later an eastbound Z-train showed up kicking snow all over the place (BN 9203(patched), BNSF 4109, CN 2450). Finally just as it was getting too dark for any more photography a westbound M-LAUPAS pulled into town (BNSF 4886, 4154). After that it was too dark for any more shooting without a tripod so I headed for home. I was very pleased with how my lens preformed even though most of the pictures werent the best because of the weather.
