The annual train show started at 9:30am on Sunday, February 16, 2003 at the Spokane Community College, so my dad and I left a couple of hours early to watch some trains before attending the train show. The first train that we ran across was the MHKSK-15 (UP 3688, 3680) which was an eastbound coming right through downtown Spokane, WA. We followed it all the way to the UP yard taking several pictures on the way. Then we headed to Yardley only to find that the M-HVRPAS1-15A (BNSF 5315, 9286 SF 633) was half-way out of the yard. We caught up to the head end and took some pictures as it headed out west. Back in Yardley there was some assorted power including BNSF 102 and a switcher BNSF 3646(RC equipped). BN(BNSF) 2075 was also in the Yard with its many little logos on the side (pictured below).
At 9:35am the westbound Z-CHCPTL1-14A (BNSF 4673, 4478, 328) left the yard. As it was leaving the eastbound grain empties X-TACCVN9-14A (BNSF 4132, 5326 BN(BNSF) 7830) pulled into the yard, recrewed and then started to leave. After these trains cleared the westbound TOFC Z-CHCSSE1-14A (BNSF 1040, NS 9590, SOO 6031) arrived. I debated about where to shoot pictures of this train and finally decided on Latah Jct. We drove straight there and just had enough time to set up before it barreled past. As we got back into the car we saw the northbound potash OPDET-15 with 3 CEFX units (CEFX 116, 1005, 1023) fly by. It got a red signal in downtown Spokane though while it waited for the westbound grain G-WOLPAS4-13A (BNSF 4115, 4339, 4821) to clear Napa St. Interlocking. I got pictures of both trains and then we headed back to Yardley to see another westbound grain G-ANPINB9-14A (BNSF 4307, 4844(DPU) SF 910(DPU), 673). At the east end of the yard we saw BNSF 4693, 4720 and 4306 waiting around. Then we headed off to the show. We arrived at the train show around 10:50am and spent some time looking around at all the different things. We met several people and made some new friends. There were also several good sized layouts of HO, Z and other scales. My dad and I spent quite some time looking at how they had done different things to the layouts and especially at the scenery. The reason for this was because we are in the process of landscaping our HO scale trainboard and so we were looking for some ideas. Anyways we left the show around 11:55am without buying anything and headed back to Yardley. The eastbound stack S-SEACHC3-15M (BNSF 5225, 6718, 7152 SF 869) was just getting ready to leave. We quickly drove down to the east end of the yard and waited for it to come out. Also at the east end was the baretable B-AUBWAT5-15B (BN 9285, BNSF 6846). I took several more pictures of those trains as well as of the westbound stack S-CHCSEA1-14M (BNSF 4141, SF 899) which arrived in Yardley at 12:20pm. After that we headed back home and arrived there around 12:50pm. I have posted several pictures of the trip in the BNSF, UP, CP, NS and Lease Unit photo sections of my webpage. Hope you enjoy and I hope to see you trackside.
